Can we take 'advantage' of the Intel situation?

feedspot - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 14:23

As much as I'd like to see Intel going down, it's probably too good to be true. But there is something I fear even more -- one of the existing company becoming the next Intel. It may be AMD or even a company working in related technologies like Nvidia or Qualcomm.

No matter who gets the lion's share of the CPU market, the winner will have their own corresponsing Intel ME, and put backdoor in their CPU and track people. And then they will make things such that, their competitor will have to bend over backwords to add similar backdoor and DRMs in place, even if they didn't want it in first place.

Intel is bleeding and they know it. Now, if we can get fundraiser and people in the likes of EFF and FSF to help put a law in place or a commitee that will set standards for CPU architecture that can keep things in check. Data safety and privacy is now a threat more than ever. And Intel will not lobby against it since they are vulnerable now.

“Seasons come and go, but our brave cactuses still stand. Summer is almost over, and autumn is coming, but the beloved plants don’t care.” — Designed by Lívia Lénárt from Hungary.

Designed by Ricardo Gimenes from Sweden.

Summer Is Not Over Yet

“This is our way of asking the summer not to go away. We were inspired by travel and exotic islands. In fact, it seems that September was the seventh month in the Roman calendar, dedicated to Vulcan, a god of fire. The legend has it that he was the son of Jupiter and Juno, and being an ugly baby with a limp, his mother tried to push him off a cliff into a volcano. Not really a nice story, but that’s where the tale took us. Anyway, enjoy September — because summer’s not over yet!” — Designed by PopArt Studio from Novi Sad, Serbia.

Summer Collapsed Into Fall

“The lands are painted gold lit with autumn blaze. And all at once the leaves of the trees started falling, but none of them are worried. Since, everyone falls in love with fall.” — Designed by Mindster from India.

How Much Tesla’s Logo Could Be Worth Might Raise Eyebrows

Following CEO Elon Musk’s tweet that he was considering taking Tesla private, the company ultimately decided to remain public. To members of Wall Street, this suggests that the firm will be working to raise more capital soon, due to the slowing demand for its bonds.

Bloomberg’s automobile site, Automotive News, deduces that one of the easiest ways to get capital is for Tesla to put up its logo as an asset for a large loan.

The publication cites Ford Motor Co., which pulled this method “during the depths of financial distress” over a decade ago. By converting its logo into collateral, Ford’s logo fetched a jaw-dropping valuation of US$8 billion.

Global brand consultancy Interbrand predicts that—with Tesla fans’ love for the brand’s electric cars—the ‘T’ monogram could amass half of that amount, US$4 billion, just 15 years after Tesla was founded in 2003.

If you have been curious about the logo’s origin, Elon Musk has said that the ‘T’ emblem is “like a cross-section of an electric motor,” while the ‘X’ in SpaceX’s logo is “like a rocket trajectory.”

Similar to SpaceX, the T is like a cross section of an electric motor, just as the X is like a rocket trajectory

Image by Iantha Naicker and featured with permission

Artist Iantha Naicker has roped in help to complete her art pieces from a source you would never expect.

Naicker has incorporated real live ants into her animal illustrations to beautiful and creative effects. She uses tiny amounts of sugar to lure the ants onto her drawings to form various parts of different animals.

These range from a lion’s mane to a rhino’s tusk. The artist explained that the ants don’t stay in one place for long though. As such, she tries to capture the images of her work as soon as the ants are in the right place.

Balenciaga’s US$7,000 Oversized Parka Likened To ‘Joey’ Fashion In ‘Friends’

Balenciaga recently dropped a US$7,180 oversized parka for its fans to don during the winter season.

Loyal fans of the classic TV sitcom Friends have noticed that the outerwear looks very similar to one particular look seen on ‘Joey Tribbiani’ in one of its episodes.

In this chapter, ‘Chandler Bing’ tries to hide ‘Joey’s’ underwear as a punishment for stealing cushions from ‘Chandler’s’ chair. To seek revenge, ‘Joey’ attempts to conceal ‘Chandler’s’ clothes by wearing every piece, resulting in a hilarious multi-layered ensemble.

Could this be Balenciaga’s inspiration for its oversized parka?

“When Balenciaga charges people literally $8000 for this coat when ‘Joey Tribbiani’ was ahead of his time and did it for free..” one person tweeted.

Though some noticed the resemblance between Balenciaga’s coat and ‘Joey’s’ outfit, others were curious as to the user-friendliness of the garment.

“How do you put it on? Looks more like a puzzle than a coat,” one concerned user tweeted. Another joked that she could recreate the look by wearing pieces from her closet. She tweeted, “On the plus side it’ll cost me nothing to recreate this look… I’ll just wear every coat I own. Mind you, a bit hot for the commute!”

Twitter Trials Feature That Suggests People You Might Want To ‘Unfollow’

feedspot - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 13:51

Images via Sydney Contemporary

You might have tried out Twitter’s ‘Who to Follow’ recommendations before. The feature suggests accounts whose posts you might want to view on your timeline, based on the people you follow and the types of content you engage with.

In an unprecedented move, the social network recently experimented with a feature that does the exact opposite: it shows you who to unfollow.

A small group of users spotted the option, and Twitter has since confirmed with Slate that the “incredibly limited test”—which only lasted a few days—was one of the options that it considered to ensure users would enjoy a “relevant” timeline.

“One way to [get a relevant timeline] is by unfollowing people they don’t engage with regularly… [and to] surface accounts that people were not engaging with…“ a spokesperson said.

However, Twitter did not specify if the test was a success. In the meantime, you might want to delete people the traditional way by muting or unfollowing accounts that make the most “noise” on your timeline.

Twitter is now suggesting accounts to UNFOLLOW!

Giant ‘Trump Head’ Sculpture Emerges In Sydney To Greet Those Outside Of Twitter

feedspot - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 13:51

Image via Nadya_Art / Shutterstock.com

Following the voyages of ‘Trump Baby’ and ‘Trump Chicken’, it seems like the US President has taken root in Australia.

In Sydney’s Luna Park, a giant sculpture of Trump’s head “arises” from the ground. Titled Monument #32: Helter Skelter, the installation for art fair Sydney Contemporary was created by Melbourne-based artist Callum Morton, and features the unmistakable facial features of Trump with an empty ‘noggin’.

The sculpture’s hollowed-out head is spacious enough to fit in a bench, allowing passersby to step inside Trump’s brain and pick at it.

According to Sydney Contemporary, the installation “play[s] a role in our everyday lives,” much like the actual president does.

Check out the sculpture below. Would you like to get in the US President’s head?

CALLUM MORTON | ‘Monument #32: Helter Shelter’ is a piece of temporary minor architecture, akin in scale to a bus shelter or a parade float. Half of the shelter bears the unmistakable characteristics of Donald Trump rising out of the ground and the other half forms a space for seating and cover from the weather. This voiceless, hollowed out, fun fair head, that reminds one of the famous Luna Park entrance across the harbour, conscripts the image of the current American President to play a role in our everyday lives by providing a place to rest and be protected. This work by @callummortonstudio (represented by @roslynoxley9 ) can be seen at @barangaroosydney until 24th September. - Artwork credits: Callum Morton, ‘Monument #32: Helter Shelter’, installation view, images courtesy of the artist and Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery - #sydneycontemporary #barangaroo #callummorton #roslynoxley9 #donaldtrump

Models Gigi Hadid & Halima Aden Join Hands To Fight Global Refugee Crisis

feedspot - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 13:51

Gigi Hadid has been chosen to grace a new magazine cover that highlights the work of UNICEF.

The model and UNICEF supporter will be featured in one of two covers for CR Fashion Book’s 13th issue, where she talks about her father’s immigration process in the interview.

The other cover features Somali-American model and UNICEF ambassador Halima Aden. The former refugee had fled to the US with her family when she was younger.

CR Fashion Book editor Carine Roitfeld noticed that many “children are on the move” and decided it was important to use “her existing platform for good.” Thus, she took to spotlighting the work and mission of UNICEF through the latest CR Fashion Book issue.

Roitfeld had discovered Hadid and given Aden her first cover back in 2017, after she competed in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant wearing a hijab and burkini.

The magazine also includes intimate stories shared by Hadid and Aden on their roots.

Hadid shares that her dad is a Syrian refugee and was kicked out of their home in Palestine before moving to Syria. She said she was overjoyed when she met Aden during the photoshoot.

Meanwhile, Aden has partnered with Caryl M. Stern, president and CEO of UNICEF, to determine how the fashion industry can help refugees.

Aden shared her backstory about arriving to the US and remembering every missionary who visited the UNICEF camp. She revealed her troubles while growing up as a refugee and how she “longed for acceptance.”

She described the difficulties of being a refugee, likening the experience to being “between a rock and a hard place” and that her mother used to tell her “home is where you make it.”

Aden and Hadid have also teamed up to launch a CrowdRise GoFundMe campaign to support those in need.

As I return from my first mission for @UNICEFUSA, to the Rohingya Refugee Camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, I am honored and excited to share my newest @crfashionbook cover story, dedicated to spreading awareness about the work of @unicef worldwide, alongside the newest UNICEF AMBASSADOR, my friend & inspiration @halima, who is living proof of the way your support of this amazing organization can really change the lives of children all over the world. With my father and his family coming to the United States as refugees, like Halima and her family, UNICEF’s work is very close to our hearts, and together we have set up a CrowdRise Fundraiser w/ CR: link in bio to donate to help the children affected by ongoing conflict and natural disasters around the world. Thank you @carineroitfeld, our fashion fairy godmother, for your generosity with this project, we love you.

Farmland Foods Hits Back At Supreme With Hilarious Lookbook After Logo Ripoff

feedspot - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 13:51

Supreme was recently called out by pork producer Farmland Foods after the streetwear brand released a cap bearing a logo similar to that of the latter.

Farmland Foods took to Twitter with the message, “Hey #Supreme, that logo looks super familiar. We missed the drop – what do you think about sending a few our way?”

Instead of taking legal action against Supreme, Farmland Foods has decided to poke fun at the situation by releasing its own lookbook featuring elderly farmers rocking Supreme gear.

“Since we missed the first Supreme drop, we went ahead and had a photoshoot of our own. And we found the perfect models,” Farmland Foods wrote on one of its Instagram posts.
